United Airlines developed a program for monitoring employee satisfaction, or the “United Beat”, of the company, and required an icon to promote internally. The client requested a logo with a heart. I sat with a round of sketches in which I combined the heart with the airline industry and other symbols which might represent teamwork and camaraderie. Selects from the sketch phase were moved forward to the computer, in a round where I explored color options and refined shapes of the icon.
